Square Monticelli (3)

I have already shown you this garden and I had promised to Miss Yves and Peter to return to it to shot the central statue in close-up.

In my street, on the left wall which you can see in my previous post, there are small doors, behind which are mysterious gardens.

I did not go very far to take this photo because it is my street which is pedestrian. I am lucky to live in this peaceful place, 10 minutes from downtown by bus and 25 minutes by feet.

Jolie vue...

We see on this photo, to the left, the sea and the cathedral of "La Major", below, the "Vieux-Port" and to the right, the bell tower of the church "Notre-Dame-des-Accoules".

I had a migraine this weekend so I did not take new photos. I thus show you a photo shot in March. Paul Valéry (1871-1945), a famous French writer, would have lived in this beautiful house located "rue Sainte" (near the Saint-Victor abbey).

Here is a building which is in my area. I don't know what it was. Maybe a watch tower...

I have no time to take new photos but those whom I show you are very representative of the today weather.

Built in 1860, the fountain, fed by waters of Verdon, was originally at the entrance of the city. Its 105 ft diameter basin is decorated with statues symbolizing the city: the Justice (sculpted by Ramus and turned towards the "Cours Mirabeau"), the Agriculture and the Business (sculpted by Chabaud and turned towards the road of Marseille) and the Fine art sculpted by Ferrat and turned towards the road of Avignon). It is also decorated with lions, with dolphins and with swans riding by angels.

Paul Cézanne ( 1839-1906 ) was born, lived and died at Aix-en-Provence. In its tribute, a route of bronze pavements allows to follow different moments of his life: the Bourbon school (now called the Mignet school, where he met the famous French writer Emile Zola), the cathedral "Saint- Sauveur" (where his burial took place), the "rue Boulegon" (his last place of residence), the "Café des Deux Garçons" (where he spent time with his friends) or still the City Hall (where he got married in 1886 after 17 years of hidden love with the mother of his son).

We found this plaque on the quay of the "Vieux-Port".
At about the year 600 B.C., Greek sailors coming from Phocée, a Greek city of Minor Asia reached here. They have created Marseille from where the civilization spread in the West.

Most of you have found the answer. It is indeed a fountain. There is one of each side of the "Cours Mirabeau", the main street in downtown Aix-en-Provence.
